Soda Pop Addiction

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

For years I have not had any kind of soda pop. At some point in my life I started noticing I would get a bad stomach ache after drinking a soda. I never really thought much about it… I just quit drinking them. Well a couple of years ago I started getting sick a lot. I went to my regular doctor and nothing was obviously wrong with me. I started thinking about the feelings I got when I felt sick.. it reminded me of when I would eat peanuts which I am very allergic to, it also reminded me of how I felt when drinking a couple of sodas. This made me think.. So I went and got tested for allergies again. I had not been tested since I was about 12. This time I asked that they only test me for food allergies. As it turned out I am allergic to soy, and corn too. Aha! No wonder when I would drink a soda I felt so sick. All the sodas seem to be sweetened with that nasty high fructose corn syrup crap.. Well bummer for me right.. no one makes soda with sugar these days right.. WRONG!! I don’t know if this is a good or bad thing because now I am re-addicted to soda again. I started looking around and found that Mexican Coke was still made with sugar, then I found out that the Dublin Dr Pepper plant still made Dr Pepper the original way using Imperial Sugar, next I start looking hard for all kinds of sodas that are made with sugar and to my pleasant surprise there are TONS out there. We now keep Mexican coke, Pepsi throwback, Dublin Dr Pepper, and many many others at our house. They all come in glass bottles too just like they should (except the Pepsi.. wth Pepsi..). I have found TONS of delicious Root Beers made just like it used to be made “back in the day”. I find most of these sodas at Central Market, and Whole Foods. The Mexican Coke and the Pepsi ate the cheapest at Costco from what I have found. I also found this AWESOME stuff called Bubble Up that is a lemon lime soda, it is made with real sugar and with Lemon and Lime oil extracts.. It is SO much better than Sprite or 7up could ever dream of being..

I already know that..

I [already] know [that] is the default response from my daughter. Doesn’t matter what you are telling her. You could be telling her she needs to clean her room, or maybe that you were just thinking to your self how you were fixing to go outside. “I know!” is what she says. Tonight she noticed that she says that a lot. Her mom was telling her “Well I was fixing to go outside so I’ll let the dog in” and she replied “I know… well wait, I didn’t know that.. I guess I say that a lot when I don’t know huh?” It was pretty funny cute

Have you tried rebooting your computer?

Bail Outs

Monday, November 24th, 2008

Pardon me while I get on my soap box here, but I am sick and tired of reading about all these bail outs. What the hell happened to letting companies that make piss poor business decisions go out of business?? Why the hell do my hard earned tax dollars have to go to get them out of trouble?? I say bull crap!! Let them fail!! What happens to me if I continually make stupid choices at work?? I GET FIRED!!! I say let these companies like AIG Citi Goup and the Car companies fold. To hell with them. These car companies aren’t willing to sell off their fleet of private jets to raise 20 or so million of the billions they want but they expect us to just fork over our money… And by the way.. where is this money coming from.. Lets just fire up the printing press and print enough money to get our selves out of this mess (rolls eyes) Id like them to spend a day in my shoes where I have to go with out cable TV to save an extra 50 bucks a month to help pay for medical bills. I know Im not alone in having to make a sacrifice I know lots of you out there are having to do similar things and you are eating beans and rice and rice and beans to help save money.. Is it just me or is it like we the people are willing to make these hard sacrifices only to watch the big corporate fat cats come in and take our hard earned tax dollars then fly off in their leer jets…

Long Sleeves for life.

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

I have been on a bit of a tattoo kick the last 9 months or so. Most of the big stuff I have gotten has been on my right or my left leg. I have some work on my arms but nothing that couldn’t be hidden by a short sleeve shirt. Nothing that is, until last night. I have always wanted to have whats known as a full sleeve on both of my arms. Well we have finally started the one on my left arm. Its going to look so bad ass when its done. Mr. Luckys tattoo in San Antonio is where Im getting the work done. The artist is Weldon Lewis. Its my opinion that he is one of the best tattoo artists in the country. So now that my forearm has been marked for life it looks like I am going to be stuck wearing long sleeves to work from here on out. I see it as a very small price to pay to be able to have some wonderful art on my arms for life.

Tubing on the Frio River

Its right around a 2 hour drive from our apartment. The original plan was to go to Garner State Park and play in the water or something, but the park was full and they would not let us in. We drove up the road a little further untli we found a good spot to park where we could access the river. We walked down to the river got on our tubes and floated down the river about a mile to this place called Happy Hollow. They charged us 2 bucks for an exit fee then a dollar per person to shuttle us back to our car. This was mine and Aprils first time to ever go tubing. Summer had been several times before. We had a really great time. We got a few pictures of the river (none with us in it though). You can check them out here.

How to tell its Spring Break

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

Well if you didnt already know its time for spring break. How do I know this you ask… Well its simple, take a look at the price of gas. In the last 10 days its gone up nearly $0.30 a gallon. I predict it will go up @ least another $0.20 before the end of the Spring Break season. This means basicly 1 thing, Big Oil knows we are going to be wanting to get out of town and they need a bigger cut. Thanks Big Oil, we love you!!

The end of week 1

Im still alive, and I still have a job. This job is really sweet. We use a lot of FreeBSD at work. We do use a little bit of linux, and I managed to get though a whole week using Fedora for my desktop. Im looking forward to a project I have been handed. I have to complete a pretty large router setup. It will all be run on some form of FreeBSD. Its a very challenging project that will test my abilities very well.I setup a wiki at work using media wiki. Its going to be for internal use only but will be used to document the router I am building, as well as most other aspects of my job and any one elses job who cares to document how to preform their job. I really like the people I work with, they are very sharp and I will be able to learn a whole lot from them.

This week has been really cold here in San Antonio. We had a hard freeze a couple days in a row and lots of places lost power (thankfully not me). I have found an H-E-B on just about every street corner. From my apartment there is like 2 in what I consider to be walking distance… I have looked around while I have been out driving around lost for other stores that we had in Odessa but I have not found anything other than WalMart. I guess H-E-B has run everyone else out of town… I really like the people I have met so far, although I havent met anyone out side of work… I pretty much stay home and play nintendo wii most of the time anyway. I joined a gym called anytime fitness. They are a 24hr gym. I like this because sometimes when I cant sleep the thing that will make me tired is tossing around some heavy weights or running a mile or so on the cross trainer. Im missing my little girl April very much and I wish she were able to be here…
